Gear: The school will provide a fencing jacket, glove, helmet, and foil. You will need to provide your own clothes and shoes. The clothes should be loose enough that you can move easily, and be something you don't mind getting sweaty. The shirt or T-shirt you wear must be long enough to be kept tucked in. You will not want to have nor will you be allowed to fence in anything that leaves skin exposed. The shoes should be appropriate for use in the gym. Street shoes are not allowed on the gym floor.

Evaluation process: Your grade will be determined by finding a weighted average of three different sets of scores. Attendance will count 70%, a practical test will count 20%, and a written test will count the last 10%. The final grade will be awarded according to the schedule:

A 90-100%, B 80-89%, C 70-79% , D 60-69% , F below 60%

Pluses and minuses will only be used if your score falls between two grade categories. If you want any other kind of grade, arrangements must be made with the registrar according to their schedule or with me in writing by June 10. An audit requires attendance of 80% of all classes.

Attendance: Physical skills cannot be mastered without practice. Being in class is therefore very important to your progress. Missed classes may be made up by attending practice sessions with the LCC Fencing Club In addition, you can accompany the club when we fence with other schools and at private clubs to make up for missed classes. You may also get credit for helping with any tournaments that we hold here at LCC.

Written Test: A written test will be given at the end of the quarter. It will cover terminology, history, tactics, safety and etiquette. All the answered are posted on Written Test.

Practical Test: A skills test will be given at the end of the quarter. This will be a chance for you to demonstrate the various techniques you have learned during the quarter.
