Lenore Vest - Instructor Profile

Class Format

I try to use a variety of methods to cover course content, including lecture, discussion and group work. My goal is to create a positive and supportive learning environment in which all students feel that they can participate and be successful.
Homework

Homework is assigned and collected on a regular basis.
Attendance
Attendance is recorded and always correlates highly with success in the class.
Calculators
Calculators have become an important tool in problem solving and will be used in a variety of ways.
Critical thinking is encouraged and the ability to demonstrate knowledge of mathematical concepts with and without calculators is expected. The use of calculators on exams depends on the individual course and type of problems being tested.
Evaluation
Grades are based on a combination of tests (usually 3 or 4), quizzes, a comprehensive final, and other work done in and out of class, such as group work, bonus problems, or brief writing assignments.
Availability
I am always available during my office hours and we can arrange to meet at other times to fit our schedules.
Philosophy
Math can be interesting, challenging and fun! I firmly believe that every student, with effort and persistence, can succeed in mathematics.
About me . . .
I enjoy hiking, photography, James Taylor, pierogi, Judy Collins, chocolate and Mozart.
