SEASON OUTLOOK

FALL 2002 RECRUITING NEWS - DRIVE 4 FIVE

The Lady Devils are reloaded and ready for a "drive 4 five" as they will be batting for their fifth straight NWAACC Championship. Eight outstanding players graduated from last year's team that amassed an amazing 30-0 league mark culminating in a win over rival Clackamas for the coveted NWAACC Championship trophy.

Despite the loss of many great players, Head Coach Tim Mackin, and his assistants Ken Vodrup and Scott O'Neil, expects great things from a very talented freshman class. Leading the group are two fine pitching prospects to go with returning Stephanie Sheppard to form perhaps the deepest pitching staff ever. Former Mark Morris player, Taylor(Johnson)Hall, who was recruited by Winthrop University in South Carolina, has returned home. Taylor is a power pitcher and will continue the good fortunes the LCC program has had of former Division I prospects coming back to their roots. Sarah Withers, a strong, hard thrower from Orting High School, has all of the pitching records from her High School. She is expected to step up and be very successful at the next level.

Several outstanding infielders will help shore up a strong defense. Sara Brown is a shortstop from South Kitsap High School. Mandy Cervantes is a big , strong first baseman from Camas who will be counted on for her strong hitting. Holly Persseisen will also challenge at first base. Catching prospect Jynessa Trennepohl from Blaine High School will be a valuable backup as well as challenging at second base. Hannah Shelley from Gig Harbor comes to LCC with great credentials and can play outfield or third base.

Christin Pass is a graduate of Astoria High School and Linn Benton CC. She has transferred to LCC to seek another degree and is a welcome addition to the program. Christin played basketball at Linn Benton. She will compete at both shortstop and the outfield.

Outfield prospects include Ashley Urquhart, a speedster from Hudson's Bay High School, and Janessa Roening an outstanding player from Port Angeles who also has great speed and will be a key in the lead off spot.

This outstanding group will join returnees Stephanie Sheppard, Ericka Karonofski, Karla Flinn, Kara Ewing, Jenn(opie)Taylor, Kelsey Isselhardt, Jenn Acker and Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American and team Captain Megan Jezierski to form yet another exciting ball team.

Home games are at Seventh Ave. Park in Longview. Your first chance to see the 2003 Lady Red Devils will be in a Fall tournament September 28th with five other Colleges.
