Lower Columbia Women's Basketball Announces 2001 Recruiting Class

Longview, WA – Head Coach Jason Hoseney and the Lower Columbia College women’s basketball team announced their 2001 recruiting class today, the Lady Red Devils have added 8 new freshman.
The newcomers include guard Vanessa Williams (5-8 La Center, WA) guard Amber Ajinga (5-5 Soap Lake, WA) guard Krystal Seward (5-8 Eagle River, AK) guard Karla Flinn (5-8 Olympia, WA) forward Kerri Curtiss (5-9 Petersburg, AK) forward Carlie Russum (5-7 Ilwaco, WA) post Carrie Richardson (6-0 Woodland, WA) and post Chrissy Reid (6-1 Kelso, WA).
Williams was a Columbian Super 5 member and was 1st team all-league while averaging nearly 20 points a game her senior year-3.6 g.p.a. Ajinga was co-MVP of the Central Washington conference and also netted close to 20 points a year during her senior year. Seward led Chugiak HS to two state tournament appearances and was named 1st team all-league and was considered one of the best guards in the state of Alaska her senior year. Karla Flinn was among the district scoring leaders her junior and senior year and led Tenino HS to two state tournament appearances-3.8 g.p.a.
After taking a year off Kerri Curtiss returns to the hardwood after completing a year at Western Oregon University where she posted a 3.8 g.p.a. Curtiss was among the state scoring leaders in Alaska her senior year. Russum joins the Lady Devils after starting 3 years for one of the best AA girls programs in the state, Ilwaco, HS. Russum brings in high energy and great atheism. Russum was a member of the Ilwaco team that led the state in team g.p.a.-Russum contributed a 3.8. Richardson led Woodland to a state placing finish while averaging 12 rebounds and 16 points a game-3.6 g.p.a. Reid led the Greater St. Helens league in rebounding and averaged double figure points her sophomore, junior, and senior year. Reid was considered one of the best high school post players in Southwest Washington the last two years-3.9 g.p.a.
“I feel with this recruiting class we have addressed our needs as far as rebounding, scoring and depth. We are bringing in players and athletes who will make an immediate impact to our team,” Hoseney said. “These eight players, when added to our roster of returning players (Breeann Petty 5-5, Jamie Seymour 5-8, Krista Olofson 5-8, and Allison Tannahill 6-3), give us the skill level and toughness we are looking for next season.”
